The Report
My internship for Commercial Photography was with Atlanta Celebrates Photography. It was in a general office setting at the Showcase Photography school building. I began on March 28th - June 3rd. Amy Miller is the executive director and Michael David Murphy is the program manager. All of the other help that they get is from volunteers. Amy and Michael begin working in the office each morning at 10 and go strong all day until they leave the office. They continue to work most days after they leave, meeting with various people for the sake of the ACP organization. "All of what they do is for the purpose of supporting photographers and enriching Atlanta's cultural scene. Most of the programs are free and open to the public. ACP strives to offer something for all people of all age groups and levels of knowledge about photography." http://www.acpinfo.org/programs/index.shtml Some of their programs are:
- ACP Collaborations
- Film Series
- Greenhouse
- Knowledge Series
- Lecture Series
- My Atlanta
- Public Art Program
- Photo Book Fair
- Portfolio Review & Walk
- Spotlight Series
The history of how ACP emerged is quite interesting. It began 12 years ago between 2 people in a car, Those 2 were Corinne Adams and Suzanne Katz who were brainstorming about how to build a stronger photographic community in Atlanta. For more on the history please visit ACP History.
Throughout the year Amy, Michael and volunteers work very hard at getting donations, volunteers, lining up participants, and getting venues etc for the main event which happens in October each year.

Interviewer: Amy Miller - in person | Date: 3/21/2011 |
My interview with Amy went very well. She talked about the different responsibilities that I will be expected to perform. She also explained that for the most part I would not have many shooting assignments. There may be only 1 or 2 events to which she will ask me to photograph. The skills that I am required to have are MS Word, Excel (some), General knowledge of resizing files, emailing docs and images, also have a personable & professional manner since I will be representing ACP.
Amy said that some of the activities I will do are: lots of researching of potential venues & funding sources, updating contact databases, representing ACP at events & possibly photographing for the blog, help write, print & mail letters.
She even told me what I can expect to gain from my experience of interning with ACP. Some of those things are: making valuable connections in the art world, learning about the photographic community locally as well as nationally, learning about the inner workings of a photo festival. She also offered an opportunity for me to inform her of any avenues that I would wish to explore personally. She said that she would do anything within her power to assist me. She wants my experience with ACP to be as rewarding for me as it will be for them.
